Veronica Puig’s Treehouse Rescue is a children’s picture book about kindness, compassion, and helping others in difficult moments. The story follows a young boy named Mike whose simple trip to buy peanut butter and jelly turns into an unexpected adventure. After learning that his little brother has eaten the family’s supply of sandwiches, Mike’s mother sends him to the store with five dollars as a storm approaches. Along the way, Mike is distracted by music from nearby trees, where he finds two caterpillars celebrating their anniversary beside a boombox. When Mike warns them about the dangerous weather, he realizes they have nowhere safe to go and quickly offers them shelter in the treehouse he once built with his father. As Mike continues his journey, he invites more animals to join him at the treehouse for safety. By the time the rain begins, the treehouse has become a lively refuge filled with birds, insects, rabbits, raccoons, kangaroos, peacocks, and other creatures seeking protection from the storm.

Treehouse Rescue is written in a playful style that blends adventure, humor, and emotional warmth. Veronica Puig uses repetition, dialogue, personification, and light suspense to keep younger readers engaged as the storm slowly approaches. The illustrations by Jessica W. Cooper are especially charming and expressive, using soft watercolor textures and bright natural settings to create a comforting atmosphere filled with movement. Each animal has its own distinctive appearance and behavior, which adds charm and variety to the narrative while reinforcing the story’s themes of cooperation and compassion. Readers of animal adventures, gentle humor, and stories about helping others will appreciate the book’s uplifting tone throughout. Young children will enjoy the combination of imaginative storytelling and richly detailed illustrations.

Veronica Puig teaches children about empathy and friendship in Treehouse Rescue. The story follows Mike, a cheerful and friendly boy who one day opens the fridge and realizes he’s out of peanut butter and jelly. So he goes to the store to buy more before it starts raining because a storm is expected that night. On the way, he hears a melody that catches his attention. When he looks among the trees, he comes across a pair of caterpillars celebrating their anniversary, and warns them that a storm is coming. Noticing that the caterpillars aren’t prepared, he comes up with an idea: taking them to the treehouse he built with his father. Along the way, they encounter more animals and situations to resolve, but Mike knows his priorities and is always willing to help.

I thought Mike was a wonderful character. He’s attentive, friendly, and always thinking of others, making him a good role model for children because when faced with difficulties, he doesn’t get discouraged; instead, he looks for practical solutions. He doesn’t get upset when there’s no peanut butter and jelly left; instead, he cheerfully goes out to buy more, while also showing responsibility when he sees animals in trouble. There’s a part where he sees some little ants building a house out of leaves, and knowing they won’t be able to withstand the rain, he invites them to the treehouse too. That’s why I liked Veronica Puig’s narrative style so much; it’s fun, creative, and full of positive messages, while Jessica W. Cooper’s illustrations are charming, with unique and expressive characters. Treehouse Rescue shows how much fun it is to live together, make new friends, and take care of others.

Treehouse Rescue: Change of Plans is a children's picture book by Veronica Puig. When young Mike finds out that they are out of peanut butter and jelly for breakfast, his mother sends him to the supermarket to restock the refrigerator. Mike sings his way to the market, only to run into Mr. and Mrs. Caterpillar, who were playing music on their 15th anniversary. Mike tells them that there's a storm coming and that they must seek refuge. He offers Mr. and Mrs. Caterpillar sanctuary in the old treehouse he built with his father a few years ago. Along the way, Mike also offers the safety of the treehouse to Mrs. Birdie and her babies, a family of ants, and many other animals. Soon, a kangaroo named Peter brings Mike what he sought in the first place.

Treehouse Rescue: Change of Plans is a delightful story with a gentle message about helping friends in their time of need. Veronica Puig tells a beautiful tale full of heart and charm, and it leaves you with a sense of hope and a smile on your face. All the characters are sweet and likable. Mike is a role model for kids, as someone who likes to ensure the safety of his friends due to his kind heart and empathic nature. The Caterpillars, Mrs. Birdie, and the family of ants were all very entertaining as secondary characters, too. All in all, this is a fun adventure with a couple of valuable life lessons for kids. Highly recommended.

In Treehouse Rescue: Change of Plans by Veronica Puig, Mike is craving a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but there are none left at home. Mike volunteers to go to the store before a storm arrives. What begins as a walk to the store quickly turns into an adventure. On his way to the store, Mike meets Mr. and Mrs. Caterpillar, celebrating their anniversary, completely unaware that bad weather is closing in. Mike offers them safety in the treehouse he and his father built together. Along the way to the treehouse, Mike also rescues Mrs. Birdie and her children, as well as a vulnerable family of ants. As the news spread about the shelter, more animals joined the growing group. In a delightful ending, Peter the kangaroo arrives carrying peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, enough to share with everyone.

Veronica Puig writes a charming children’s story with gentle life lessons about kindness, responsibility, and putting others first. Mike set aside his craving for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to help others in need. The supporting cast, from the Caterpillars to the rest of the rescued animals, shares the message of community and generosity. The plot is well-structured and paced. It is appropriate for younger readers, who will enjoy the story. The writing makes the story suitable for independent reading or family story time. The bright, colorful illustrations by Jessica W. Cooper complement the text. It brings energy to every page while enhancing the story’s cheerful tone. Treehouse Rescue is a visually appealing book with positive messages. I encourage parents to have this book on their shelf.
