Family Favourites Cookies From Around the World by Brian Parkin introduces Ugly Sweater cookies and others. I’m sure you’re familiar with the idea of wearing the ugliest Christmas sweater ever, but a cookie that looks just as ugly? It is possible but it looks and tastes delicious. Who wouldn’t enjoy a chocolate cookie covered in sweet, melt-in-your-mouth, icing? Then there’s Maple Shortbread made with real maple syrup – yummy. I can’t wait to try these. Have you ever heard of the alfajor? It’s a traditional Argentinian cookie - a sandwich cookie filled with Dulce de Leche, a sweet caramel-like filling. Every country has its traditional sweet treats and every family has their favorites. I have favorites that I make every year at Christmas, but I’m not averse to trying something new and adding it to my list.
Brian Parkin’s cookbook Family Favourites Cookies From Around the World is a collection of 50 recipes for cookies that will just melt in your mouth. Each recipe begins with a short paragraph describing the cookie and its origins. The recipe itself is well laid out, beginning with the list of ingredients in the order of use and followed by a detailed description of how to make the cookies. There is also a mouth-watering photograph of the finished product to entice readers to attempt them. If you’re looking for something new to add to your Christmas baking spree, this book has plenty of suggestions and you can certainly impress family and friends with sweets from around the world.
