In Farm Life by author KC Morcom, young readers are introduced to the Ted Family, an adorable group of teddy bears who work on the farm together. Everything is perfect on the farm - they can ride their bikes to their favorite places, have a whole crew of animals that help with farm chores, and even drive around the town and go shopping. Everything seems ideal until they enter a drought season. With no rain, the farm produces less and the family worries about their prospects. However, thanks to the generosity of their community, the farm can recover. They can hire additional help to expand the farm’s operations, prospering even more. This unique story ties in themes about community aid, family, and the farmers who provide for so many.
Farm Life by KC Morcom takes readers on an adventure into the Ted Family’s farm, and how they overcome challenging seasons. I thought the reliance on the community was a beautiful addition to the book and a reminder that we all need help sometimes. The characters had a lot of heart behind their actions, and it was sweet to see their distinct personalities. This is a great tool to teach kids about the importance of farmers in our communities, and how they help provide for so many people throughout the country. It also includes positive themes like the importance of generosity, whether that’s supporting the farm through monetary means or donating supplies that keep them sustained throughout the drought.
