Fate's Rebellion (Sixth Sense Series Book 1) by Whitney Morsillo commences with Tala Convel crying after her breakup with Connor Weylyn. Connor reveals that he has dropped Tala to protect her from his wolf form. On Tala’s eighteenth birthday, her parents ask her to be home by eleven. She is shocked to experience her first transformation before her parents had warned her, but Connor helps and leads her back to her friend Ruelle. Now the teens are both wolves, nothing can keep them apart, except that they belong to rival packs! Will the jealous antics of Sasha betray their forbidden relationship? What evil disposition motivates Caleb Bleddyn and his bullying followers? What else haven't their parents told them?

Fate's Rebellion by Whitney Morsillo combined fantasy and romance into a narrative eminently suited to the young adult audience. I admired the embedded illustrations and enjoyed reading the text chat as part of the presentation. The main characters, Connor and Tala, quickly gained my sympathy. I also enjoyed seeing the supporting display of friendship from Seth and Ruelle. The harmony and cooperation developing among the younger generation were beautiful and I resented the parents' harsher approach to the situation. At first, Caleb seemed over-protective but nice to Tala, and I was shocked at his evolution. I was fascinated by the interplay between varying degrees of parental authority. This book emphasized all the touchstones that interest me, including schoolyard drama, secret romance, parental disapproval, and the magical prospect of reconciliation after adventure.
