Finding Me is an absorbing coming-of-age tale by Jacquie Biggar. Ever since the suicide of her father, life hasn't been the same for Izzy Thomas. While her mother slowly lost her life to alcohol and pharmaceutical pills, Izzy had to drop out of high school to take care of her younger brother, Benjamin. Meanwhile, Renée, her older sister who ran away from home after their father's death, has finally returned to Chinook for their mother's funeral. However, Izzy isn't quite ready to forgive her just yet. Izzy also has a complicated romantic relationship with her boss, Jay, who, unbeknownst to her, is helping her sister open a physical rehabilitation center and yoga clinic in town. Additionally, Ben has a friend who is in trouble. Will the Thomas siblings be able to get their lives back on track?
A heartfelt slice-of-life story full of family drama and romance, Finding Me is the perfect book for lovers of coming-of-age tales. With a captivating narrative, Jacquie Biggar paints a realistic portrait of two sisters trying to mend broken relationships and rebuild their family. The book is very well-paced, with an engaging plot that keeps you on your toes with unexpected twists and turns. Renée, Izzy, and Ben's sibling dynamic feels so real and relatable, and it is the primary driver of the narrative. The relationships between Izzy and Jay and Renée and Simon were thoroughly compelling. The author also captures the ambiance of small-town America with the portrayal of Chinook, which actually feels lived-in. In conclusion, this is a moving story about growing up -- I highly recommend it to young adult readers.
