An island shrouded in mystery known only for its possession of the city of gold causes a stir among the masses and the only one who knows its location is Murdoch Firefax. Firefax by Amelia Vergara follows the infamous Firefax clan, a family of trained killers known for their ability to assassinate any target, even high-profile individuals. When the head of the family dies, the siblings must all gather at the family compound as their enemies try to take advantage of the patriarch’s death, but what they don’t know is that there are no weak links in this family.

Firefax by Amelia Vergara is an intense, action-packed story that centers on the remaining members of the Firefax family. The themes center around piracy, sibling rivalry, and adventure, and even though I usually wouldn’t gravitate toward stories like this, I found myself becoming so immersed. Vergara has such a talent for painting pictures with words, making every scene come to life within your mind. The characters were also unique and while they each had their interesting quirks, I found myself liking Clara the most. Although her family tried to shelter her, she still has such an inner strength.

The narration by Vas Eli was wonderfully done with good production quality and an almost perfect performance by Eli. His tone and reading pace matched the book perfectly and helped to enhance the intense atmosphere of the book. Eli offered a wide variety of voices for the different characters in the book and made the listening experience an easy one.
