Julian D. Parrott has carefully set the stage in his spy, detective, and romance novel, Fit For Purpose, from the prologue to the last page. The author slowly involves the reader with each character in the story. The main characters are Tom Price, Nia Williams, and Jacques Gagnon Ph.D., and how their lives become entwined in traveling home from Canada back to the United Kingdom. The other characters are the Russian Colonel Feodor Kamenev who would like to eliminate anyone who is against Mother Russia, and Rachel and Owain – Tom’s sister and her husband - who look after Ralph, Tom's dog, when he goes away. Other characters are the poor suffering journalists that get knocked off from time to time and the members of MI5 and MI6 who get involved to make sure that everyone stays safe. Fit for Purpose takes place in the time frame of 3 months between the 20th November 2019 and the 22nd January 2020.
The author has created his story so effectively and so successfully by weaving in and out of everyone’s lives who are involved and so allowing the reader to understand how come Colonel Feodor Kamenev would like to eliminate Tom and his Canadian friend Jacques Gagnon Ph.D. This is one of the best espionage, detective, and romance novels I have read. Normally they are just full of dead bodies and not much else but Julian D. Parrott has written a page-turner! It is the type of book that once you start reading you do not want to stop. This exciting book was hard to put down. I loved the fact that it started right from the prologue and, as you keep reading, each of these stories fitted into the main story and still did not spoil the end of the book. It made me keep on reading until my eyes burned and I had to go to bed. A most interesting book.
