Five Minutes from a Meltdown is a collection of poetry by David Meyer, featuring artwork by Mark Hill. The poems address everyday issues with both comedic and poignant touches. They include relatable stories, such as someone unwilling to do the dishes, a fan embarrassing himself to see his favorite band, and a mother reluctant to wake up when her baby cries at night. Meyer shares funny narratives to highlight simple moments that bring us joy, like a woman dancing to her phone ringtone and a humorous incident in a store where a man says he is buying condoms for his father. Enjoy these poems and many more that will tickle your funny bone and encourage reflection on the small, often-overlooked moments in life that provide both laughter and insight.

David Meyer’s collection, Five Minutes from a Meltdown, is an enjoyable read with unique poems that explore personal experiences, including pop culture references, and display clever wordplay. The poems are structured simply, utilizing free verse and enjambment. The language is easy to understand, and each poem tells a clear story that often ends with a humorous twist. While many poems focus on fun and jokes, some also delve into more serious themes like addiction, homelessness, politics, and mental and physical health. My favorite poem, the last one in the collection, emphasizes the importance of being true to oneself. Mark Hill's illustrations are a fantastic addition, providing visual elements that complement the poetry with their satirical and whimsical qualities. Overall, this collection skillfully balances humor with depth, allowing readers to find laughter in everyday absurdities while prompting reflection on more serious personal struggles and societal issues. Great work!
