Fragment: Some Truths Destroy Everything by Kenneth James Allen is a compelling psychological thriller with a unique premise that will fascinate readers. Detective Nick Valentine is a man haunted by a mystery he has been unable to unravel: who shot and killed his adoptive parents? Convinced his own brother was somehow involved in their deaths, he struggles with his inability to piece together his memories of that night. RASA is a high-tech company that has developed a technology for erasing memories, specifically trauma, from patients. Being the only corporation with this technology, RASA’s CEO has become very wealthy and extremely powerful. When Valentine investigates the death of a young woman from RASA who was threatening to expose the corporation for its corruption and weaponization of memories, he uncovers a political conspiracy and cover-up that will potentially destroy the company, but he also discovers the dangers of remembering the truth.

Fragment is a fast-paced, well-plotted story that will grab readers with its technology as well as its web of lies, deceit, and corruption. Author Kenneth James Allen’s concept of a process that can wipe out trauma from people’s minds sounds, on the surface, to be a great boon for victims of violence or disaster, but like all high-tech, it has the potential to be used for good or evil. The placing of all that power in one company and one person’s hands is perfectly illustrated in this story. I appreciated the depth and complexities of Detective Nick Valentine’s character. The moral ambiguity of his adoptive parents’ mistreatment of Nick and his brother, and the belief that they did indeed deserve to die, is something that both siblings had wrestled with over the years. Nick’s relationship with his brother was fascinating. Believing Sonny was the murderer of their adoptive parents, and despite his desire to see him behind bars, there was an underlying brotherly love that shone through on occasions. Martin, the former priest, added another layer of complexity to the tangled web of the pair’s childhood and adulthood, which gave depth and color to the plot. I found this story fresh, riveting, and just dark enough to keep me intrigued. I highly recommend this read.

In Fragment by Kenneth James Allen, Detective Nick Valentine blames his brother, Sonny, for the deaths of their adoptive parents. When a raid linked to Sonny’s illegal memory destruction operation took place, Nick made sure he was part of it. Nick had been trying for a long time to find proof of Sonny’s involvement in their adoptive parents’ deaths, but had never succeeded. Scarlett Quinn, who works for RASA, discovered a memory of a patient that proved the company was erasing and destroying evidence of crimes. RASA specializes in memory erasure, but there was much more happening behind the scenes, and the CEO will do everything in her power to keep it quiet. When Scarlett threatened to go to the police, her body was found the next morning. Are Sonny and RASA connected? And can Nick stop the operation before it is too late?

Kenneth James Allen's Fragment captivated me with its fast-paced action from the first page. It was a thrilling journey of assault, secrets, betrayal, danger, and lost memories. All the twists and turns created nonstop suspense, and I could not read fast enough to find out what would happen next. The writing style was engaging, and I quickly felt part of Nick’s search for the truth about his adoptive parents. The characters were realistic and relatable. Erasing a certain memory seems like the right thing to do if it bothers you. The book was excellently written, and the erasing of specific memories felt natural and believable. It was an outstanding story that left me with plenty to contemplate.

Fragment by Kenneth James is a taut psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. Detective Nick Valentine longs to know why his adoptive parents were murdered and why there are things he can’t remember. On the face of it, tech company RASA is aboveboard, set up to help people forget past trauma. But beneath, there’s something far more dangerous going on – memories aren’t being wiped out at all. They’re being stolen and turned into weapons. A young woman who threatened to blow the whistle turns up dead, dragging Valentine into a case that will haunt him. Dark secrets, deep conspiracies, and corruption are just the tip of the iceberg as Valentine comes face-to-face with his past while his career falls apart. What he finds could change his life forever – is he prepared to face the truth? Is his estranged brother involved in their parents’ murders?

Fragment by Kenneth James is one of the most intense thrillers you’ll ever read. It’s a well-paced story, drawing you into its web from the first page. The plot unfolds gradually, chapter by chapter, each one revealing a bit more of the truth. It’s packed with action and emotion, and yes, there is some violence, but it’s nothing you wouldn’t expect from a story like this. It’s a tense story about uncovering truths that should maybe be left alone, about the damage some secrets can do, and done with a cast of characters that feel very real. You’ll go through a whole range of emotions reading this, but you will be on the edge of your seat all the way through every twist and turn that leads to yet another dark secret. If you like a good thriller with plenty of suspense and a dark plot, this is one you mustn’t miss out on.
