Inside the Darkness: Eternal Book 4 by JP Ramzy picks up with former assassin Devyn and her companions, Isaac and Ryan, wandering a ruined Texas after the Blackout meteor strike. The atmosphere is terrifying, with winged monsters and human-faced beasts patrolling a sky that has become a hunting ground. The team is emotionally wrecked because Piper, a little girl they were looking after, died in a fire, and the loss has left Devyn consumed by a white-hot rage. She decides to go her own way, eventually finding a strange oasis called the Crossroads Motel. There, she finds a woman caring for her terminally ill son who communicates with a mysterious spirit named Ariel. While Devyn is dealing with this eerie, peaceful sanctuary, Ryan and Isaac are living through a literal nightmare after being captured by a military group called Storm Troopers. Accused of a deadly bombing in Dallas that they didn’t do, they face brutal interrogation by authorities searching for Devyn. Things take a desperate turn when a shadowy woman calls Devyn over the phone, offering her a weapon and a way to save them. The only catch is that the help is coming from a very dark source. Can Devyn really pull off a prison break when she doesn't know who to trust?

Inside the Darkness by JP Ramzy is a heart-pounding young adult supernatural drama that plunges readers into a world overrun by terrifying creatures, and faith is pushed to its breaking point. Ramzy’s writing is centered on the immediate danger, which makes the pages turn very quickly. I liked that the motel felt so out of place, giving the plot a spiritual, otherworldly quality that kept me fixated on the story. I found the contrast between the sunny Chicago flashback at the start and the dusty, ruined reality of the present to be a great way to set the mood. The way the author handles the tension at the facility where Ryan and Isaac are being held makes for one of the most pulse-pounding stretches of the novel. Devyn is easily the most complex and fascinating character in the story. It was interesting to see how the messenger on the phone plays with her head, making her question her old life as an assassin and who she is now. If you love narratives where the heroes are constantly backed into a corner, you’ll enjoy reading this one.

Inside The Darkness by JP Ramzy picks up with Devyn, a former assassin who is at breaking point after witnessing Piper, the girl she cared for, die in a horrific fire. Devyn is wandering a shattered America with her friends, Ryan and Isaac, though they are all shells of their former selves. The world they live in is a total wreck ever since a supernatural blackout hit, bringing terrifying winged creatures that snatch people up and turn everything into a literal hellscape. While the boys are struggling, Devyn eventually goes off to find some peace and ends up at the Crossroads Motel. There, she meets a woman named Amanda and her young son, Jake, who is dying of leukemia. Watching another child face death, while a mysterious girl named Ariel hovers around him as some kind of spiritual guide, pushes Devyn to the edge. Will she find a reason to keep going, or is the spiritual void too much to handle?

Inside The Darkness by JP Ramzy is book four in the Eternal Series. It's a compelling supernatural thriller that stays right in the thick of the chaos. The pacing is interesting because it alternates between intense, terrifying flashbacks of the initial calamity—monsters turning to ash and city-wide pandemonium—and the much slower, emotional moments at the motel. The relationship between Devyn and Jake is a stark contrast to the violence of her past life as a killer for a corrupt priest. Overall, the prose is very sharp and focuses on the grit of a world where highways are abandoned, and resources have dried up. It’s a raw look at survival, where the forces of darkness hunt people down while the characters navigate the crushing reality of being left behind. If you're searching for a book that depicts the turbulent side of belief during a worldwide apocalypse, I think this one will do just nicely.

Inside the Darkness is the fourth book of the Eternal series by JP Ramzy. Devyn grew up in foster homes after her parents were brutally murdered. Tricked into being an assassin for a shady priest, Devyn is now haunted by the fate of a young girl named Piper, who burned to death. Since the apocalypse, she has been roaming the long-deserted highway between Dallas and Austin with Ryan and Isaac. In despair, she loses her faith in God and leaves Ryan and Isaac to venture on her own. After arriving at the Crossroads Motel, she realizes that the establishment seems untouched by the chaos of the outside world. A young boy named Jake restores her faith and warns her to be wary of the darkness. Now, she must save her friends from a terrible fate.

Inside the Darkness is a dark fantasy novella that delves into themes of redemption, salvation, and revival. JP Ramzy has created a captivating post-apocalyptic world where the characters go through severe adversity and trauma, and it tests the limits of their faith. Ramzy's narrative is brutal and relentless. However, the book has an optimistic ending that is sure to bring joy to readers. It's a tale about hope and faith in the face of overwhelming odds. The protagonist, Devyn, is a fascinating character. She has suffered extreme trauma seeing her loved ones killed off one by one, which has led her to lose her faith and question the very existence of God. Devyn's interactions with Amanda and Jake were some of my favorite scenes in the book. This one is perfect for fans of post-apocalyptic tales.
