If you are looking for a young adult epic fantasy flavored with adventure, action, suspense, mythical lore, LGBTQ, humor, and a touch of sci-fi and drama, Fragmented Control by Gary D Stringer is a perfect pick. The plot is narrated by the character Arshes Megane, an immortal from a thousand years in the future. The multi-perspective timeline of the story, courtesy of the diverse cast and the expansive world-building, lent the plot an appealing complexity. Stringer weaves a high-stakes cosmic saga with fun, absurdity, and whimsy. I held my breath as I followed the Guardians' hasty escape from a life-threatening supernatural attack through a portal. The next moment, I was laughing as I watched another character, still learning the ropes, display their amateurish handling of a portal. The cinematic depictions and the lively conversations, entwined with banter and pop culture references, made reading this book feel like watching a Hollywood young adult fantasy comedy. I highly recommend reading the previous instalments to savor this page-turner.
