Dreya the Dark, a faery sorceress, and Catriona, a half faery druid, were busy preparing parts of the Black Tower, following Dreya’s recent betrothal to Catriona, when the grounds of the tower attacked them and their guests. Soon, they not only learn that Ulvarius was behind the attack, but also that something was amiss with their timeline. It turns out that during the destruction of Kullos’s dimensional control device, Kullos managed to send fragments hurtling through portals. A fragment had landed three hundred and twelve years back in time at Ulvarius’ feet, giving him immense power, enough to alter the events of his time and the future, now the present. The Guardians of Tempestria—Dreya, Catriona, and Mandalee, a demon hunter—must travel three centuries back in time to prevent the looming disaster. They’re only required to restore history, not rewrite it. Can they pull this off? Find out in Fragmented Control: The Salvation of Tempestria Book 4 by Gary D Stringer.

If you are looking for a young adult epic fantasy flavored with adventure, action, suspense, mythical lore, LGBTQ, humor, and a touch of sci-fi and drama, Fragmented Control by Gary D Stringer is a perfect pick. The plot is narrated by the character Arshes Megane, an immortal from a thousand years in the future. The multi-perspective timeline of the story, courtesy of the diverse cast and the expansive world-building, lent the plot an appealing complexity. Stringer weaves a high-stakes cosmic saga with fun, absurdity, and whimsy. I held my breath as I followed the Guardians' hasty escape from a life-threatening supernatural attack through a portal. The next moment, I was laughing as I watched another character, still learning the ropes, display their amateurish handling of a portal. The cinematic depictions and the lively conversations, entwined with banter and pop culture references, made reading this book feel like watching a Hollywood young adult fantasy comedy. I highly recommend reading the previous instalments to savor this page-turner.
