From a Cold Dark Place: Stories and Essays from the Life of Michael Tavon by author Michael Tavon is a book containing a total of ten stories, essays and poems (hereafter referred as stories). Through these stories, Michael sincerely share his thoughts on his sex life, police harassment, loneliness, and resentment towards the blue collar lifestyle. These stories are short and easy to read.

I can relate to most of the stories in this book, as I too have been in a cold dark place. Having been there, I would say that it makes us more human, more sympathetic to our fellow human beings. Out of the ten stories, there are three I particularly like. I Envy the Homeless, and What They Represent highlights that homeless people may be better humans as they could be more honest with themselves than those with homes. Loathing in Loneliness ponders on the question: what if I never find love? This question is particularly pertinent to Michael as he revealed, “In the grand scheme of things, I am nothing but a poor black man, from a poor black family, raised in a poor black neighborhood. I am a young man with a dream most women can’t fathom to believe.” A Beautiful World shows that the world may not be so beautiful after all. Congratulations to Michael for having written an interesting book and for sharing his personal stories!
