Genesis of the Phoenix Dawn is the second book in the Eternal Grind series by Joel Poe. Having grown into his role as the Phoenix Warrior, Joren faces the biggest threat to the existence of Aelloria yet, with the Dark Lord Malazar who has acquired powers to challenge the gods themselves. Helping him on his quest are his companions, Anwar the Paladin, Rogue Lyra, Arcane Mage Kolos, and Healer Rafaela. Battling foes and nature's perils alike, this little group traverses dangerous terrain, testing their abilities to their limits to scale to the top of Wind Haven's Peak to meet with the Oracle, the last dragon in the land of Aelloria. After unlocking new abilities, Joren and his friends must now prepare for a final confrontation with the Dark Lord Malazar while he defeats the most powerful of ancient gods.
One of the things I like about Joel Poe's books is that the author manages to craft vibrant worlds featuring reluctant heroes, nightmarish monsters, and evil villains using a relatively low word count. There is no fluff in these books, and you find yourself breezing through the pages without a hitch. There's a lot of high fantasy magic and battles with heroes leveling up on abilities that will appeal to gamers and fantasy lovers alike. In Genesis of the Phoenix Dawn, the friendship between Joren and his companions is stronger than ever, and you get to see how each group member helps and supports the other in times of need. The plot is fast-paced, sprinkled with a flavor of adventure and colorful artwork you can't take your eyes off. This is a treat for litRPG readers.
