Ghost Writer by Arjay Lewis is a paranormal novel with the undertones of a psychological thriller. The story follows Joe Riley, a once-successful thriller author whose divorce and writer’s block push him to retreat to a secluded cabin he has inherited. While struggling with loneliness, alcohol, and his crumbling confidence, Joe begins to hear strange noises and later finds finished pages he doesn’t recall writing. His confusion deepens when he encounters the ghost of a long-vanished novelist, who seems to be guiding him. As he digs into the ghostly author’s tragic past and his family’s mysterious ties to her, Joe discovers terrifying truths that threaten not only his career but also his sanity and survival. Can he figure out what happened before it is too late?
Author Arjay Lewis's suspenseful, terrifying thriller had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I was fully invested and wanted to know what happened to the dead writer and why she had a connection with Joe’s family. I loved the eerie atmosphere, sharp inhales, and the psychological drama. The intensity of the story was perfect. I can imagine reading it during Halloween for the perfect chills and thrills. Joe is a flawed protagonist. He is vulnerable and emotionally hurt, but desperate enough to overcome his fear to figure out what happened to his ghostly companion. The narrative was descriptive, perfect for creating a sense of dread and excitement in readers. There was never a dull moment in the story, and I enjoyed every second of it. I highly recommend Ghost Writer to readers who enjoy thrillers with a touch of horror.
