In "Ghoulfriends Forever", there are a new group of students at Monster High. Author Gitty Daneshvari allows ongoing visual images for preteen children in her latest mystery/fantasy. Students are coming from all over the world to learn how to be respectable and respectful monsters. Rochelle, Venus, Robecca and Cy all become friends when the dragon-whispering teacher Ms. Flapper becomes the leader of a new group. She invites the four friends to the group but they are suspicious of her motivations. Little by little they gather evidence which points to a shattering realization that they are all about to become living zombies. It is up to the unusual monsters to try to figure out a way to not only keep themselves safe from Ms. Flapper's spell but also to free the other students and staff from the horrendous life that Flapper has planned for them.

This is a cute story and written for the grade level but without being beneath the reading dignity of most preteen children. There is just enough mystery to add a bit of tension without scaring children into having nightmares. There is tremendous opportunity to visualize in this book. The descriptions of the monsters are delightful and the illustrations just suffice to enhance the child's own imagination. I think my only let-down with the book was that the mystery was resolved rather too quickly and without a lot of thought on the part of the main characters. But, that in no way detracted from the delightful monsters and their motivation to protect their school from the devious acts of others. A fun read!
