Tracy Borgmeyer wraps up the action-packed middle-grade Science Girl Extraordinaire series with Halley Harper: Race to Outer Space. At just thirteen, Halley Harper has proven herself to be an extraordinary inventor, her latest invention being the communication laser booster. However, when testing the laser booster at Mission Control causes a communications blackout with the space station, Halley fears her reputation as "Miss Disaster" will prevail for quite some time. She returns to Camp Eureka with her friends and soon discovers that a shadowy organization named E.G.O. is blocking worldwide communication channels and taking over the summer camps. Now, as a new and youngest agent of the Extraordinaires, Halley must destroy the satellite blockers, stop E.G.O from getting her laser booster, and save Agent Mac.

Halley Harper: Race to Outer Space is a thrilling finale to what has been an absolutely "awesome" sci-fi/adventure series for children. Author Tracy Borgmeyer never misses a beat in this installment, weaving a fast-paced plot with plenty of action, drama, and mystery lacing the narrative. There is so much for space adventure aficionados to love about this book. Borgmeyer doesn't take much time to set up the characters and plot, dropping you into the scheme of things from the very first page. Halley is as quirky and lively as ever. She is the kind of protagonist young readers look up to and find inspiring. Among the secondary characters, Gracelyn, Nathan, Sally, and Ethel were my favorites. Overall, I have enjoyed all the books in this series, and this one is no different. Highly recommended.
