Sherry Ellis describes a unique way of celebrating the 4th of July in her book, Happy Birthday to US! The story takes place in a charming town filled with parades, music, and dancing. That same day, an adorable little boy celebrates his birthday. He describes his day from morning to night while showing us the details of the celebration. He begins by admitting that at first he thought everything he saw on the streets was for him. But now he understands that this day is also a tribute to the freedom of the United States. The little boy spends time with his father, who answers some of his questions about the holiday, teaching him while having fun. At the end of the story, there is a section discussing the Declaration of Independence and the origins of July 4th celebrations.
I really liked Sherry Ellis' writing style. She uses clear language with melodious, short sentences. That's why this book is ideal for youngsters learning to read. The story is interesting and entertaining. It takes place throughout the day in various locations, such as the house, the streets, and a park. The author includes historical facts while maintaining a festive spirit. The book is written from a child's perspective, which makes it easier to understand and feel the excitement of both the birthday and the celebration around it. The illustrations by Nina Hvozdzeva are colorful and varied, depicting friendly characters living together in harmony and a joyful atmosphere, especially during the fireworks. Happy Birthday to US! reminds us of the importance of standing united to enjoy freedom.
