Harold the Skeleton is a compelling short horror story for young adults by N N Beydoun. The story begins with fear and turmoil, and with a scared young woman running through the woods as if someone, or something, is chasing her. The woman, named Luna the Gypsy, has had an ominous encounter with a creature that was out of this world, a demonic spirit if you will, which produced an unholy pregnancy and unwanted and strong emotions and events that followed it. Luna the Gypsy sought refuge in a nearby local church, begging Father Frederick, who was the local priest there, to keep her and her baby safe from the evil that lurked in the shadows. However, as it turned out, the vile forces of evil had something entirely different planned for Luna and her unborn child.
N N Beydoun approaches the scary, tragic occurrences that drive the story with simple, yet effective narration. The author describes the characters in an equally interesting way, putting more emphasis on the mischievous and innocent side of each of them. Beydoun’s style of writing reads like one would read a fairy tale; Harold the Skeleton is full of twists and turns, supernatural creatures, and exciting life lessons that some of the main characters have yet to learn. That works well with the appearance of the dark figure that follows Harold around. It is an entertaining read that will offer a different adventure to the reader, an enjoyable step into the mysterious world of skeletons, spirits, death, emotional turmoil, young love, innocence, and growing up.
