Haunted by a Broken Oath is the first book in Dee Armstrong’s new Haunted series. JD Wolfe, a talented private investigator, is pulled into a tough case when the body of a decorated military hero is found hanging. When two young boys go missing, she’s dragged in even deeper, and her world starts falling apart as she is forced to face her past. The more she investigates, the worse it gets, and the closer to danger she comes, but it’s not just her in the firing line – so too are her career and the family that saved her from a grim orphanage. But her past is full of dark secrets and a ghost that won’t leave her alone. She’s kept the ghost out for years, but with danger fast approaching, she must let it in. Can JD solve her cases and keep her family safe?
Haunted by a Broken Oath is a stunning thriller from Dee Armstrong, and once you start reading, you’ll not put it down until you’re done. The plot is intriguing and full of action, right from the first page, and the cast of characters is amazingly well developed, with a strong female lead whom you’ll be rooting for all the way through. The story does deal with subjects that may be triggering to some readers, including attempted rape, sexual trauma, and suicide, so caution is advised before reading. There’s plenty of wit and snark along the way, and despite the nature of the story, you will laugh out loud in places – you might even see yourself in one or two of the characters. The twists and turns will keep you hooked, and with plenty of jaw-dropping scenes and some scares thrown in for good measure, this is a book you don’t want to miss out on. Looking forward to more in this series.
