Great teamwork between Ron and Jacqueline Zarro has resulted in Have You Ever Seen? It asks amusing questions such as whether you have seen “a bunny with lots of money?” or “a skunk hiding in a steamer trunk?” Well, you will in this silly and imaginative list because that’s what it is; a list of have you seen(s). Lists don’t always work in a picture book, but in this case, I’m not sure of any other way to get the same effect.

The text on each page acts as a caption. Name a critter and there’s a good chance you’ll see it represented on one of the pages. Have you ever seen a flower taking a shower? Although a delightful illustration by itself, you would have no idea what was going on without the text. Then there’s Max the quirky mole, found in every scene. This is a book that will be picked up time after time to see what you have missed in the illustrations.

In a recent conversation, an author and I were debating the recent lack of picture books written to simply entertain a child. I contended that any good picture book always contains some sort of message, even if not intended. Have You Ever Seen? proves my point. I don’t get the impression that Ron and Jacqueline Zarro set out to preach. Instead, you can feel the fun they must have had while creating this book, but we get the message. Lots of them, although this book is also pure entertainment.

Could hardy ask for anything more positive in a children's book review. Pure enjoyment for the (child) reader is wht I'm thinking after the review. Bon chance authors.
