Healthy Eating with Liam, the Smart Rabbit by Azaliya Schulz introduces Liam, a good little rabbit who enjoys eating all his veggies and fruits. He even grows most of what he eats in his garden and takes pride in caring for the garden. There’s a big factory near his garden that makes all kinds of sweets, candies, and cakes. Liam is curious about what it produces and asks his mom. She explains, “Your garden grows food that you eat/ that helps you grow strong from your head to your feet.” She goes on to explain the value of the vitamins in each of the veggies and fruits that Liam eats. He’s still curious and sneaks into the factory to study the process of making sweets. What he learns is disturbing and will keep even the pickiest eater away from the harmful effects of sweet products.
Azaliya Schulz’s picture book, Healthy Eating with Liam, the Smart Rabbit is a sure way to make all children smart eaters like Liam. Told in rhyming verse, this lyrical treasure will both educate and entertain even the fussiest of eaters. Young readers will enjoy the simple language and the rhyming verse as they learn about vitamins and different foods that are healthy. The plot follows Liam as he learns about the good nutrients in his diet and the curiosity that leads him into the sweet factory to learn more. With colorful illustrations, this is a fun read that will encourage young readers to eat healthily and enjoy the fresh natural foods that they can grow in their own gardens.
