Herman the mouse has lots of stories to share with young readers. He is a smart mouse and Papa Mouse and Mama Mouse knew it from the start. They lived in a pile of hay in a barn where there were cows, chicken, and sheep. There was also a friendly horse named Ned. Early morning when the farmer milked the cows and the cows ate their food, Herman tried to grab his treat. There was a giant mousetrap in the corner against the wall and Papa Mouse was scared. Herman hadn't eaten cheese for a long time and he wanted the cheese in the mousetrap. He made Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C and worked all night till he came up with the right plan. He thought he would wait till dark when Lloyd, the old tomcat with one ear, went to sleep. Would Herman get the cheese?

Herman the Mouse by Tammy Brown is an adorable story that teaches young readers kindness, acceptance, and friendship. It helps them understand how anyone can become friends even though they are different. The author's illustrations capture the mood of the story and the characters vividly and give the book a good pace and movement. It is quite interesting to note the brown little spider on every page of the story. The characters - Herman, his parents, and Lloyd - are charming and memorable. It is a good story for tutors and parents to teach children to accept others - despite being different from each other - in a good way using Herman the mouse and Lloyd the tomcat.
