Hidden Terror by Rachel Walker is an apocalyptic sci-fi thriller that tells of Earth's alien invasion. At first, people thought aliens were impossible. Then, they thought the aliens were a blessing when they eradicated disease. But when things take a sinister turn and the aliens start experimenting on humans, people are driven underground to live in communes, hiding from the world they once ran and praying that other humans don't sell them out to the aliens to save their own lives. Eve Males shares her harrowing tale of life in the commune, experimentation at the hands of the aliens, and the betrayal and suspicion of every human she crosses paths with. Every connection she makes, every person she meets, and even every memory she has is brought under scrutiny. Are things what they seem? Or are the aliens setting her up?

Hidden Terror is an interesting take on the dystopian future that is becoming popular in current literary trends. Eve's struggles for survival and in recapturing the memories of alien experimentation on her body create a unique, fast paced plot that keeps you guessing and makes you wonder if the people around her are who they say they are. Nothing is what it seems in this thrilling novel. The aliens have driven people to the worst of humanity, and it leaves readers with the relevant question that many sci-fi novels pose: would we want aliens to find humanity and Earth as it is? Rachel Walker's story shows us how our own natures could be turned against us if survival is at stake.
