Hidden by Melody Grace Hicks offers a mix of genres that I love most - romance, action and mythology. Shannon Murphy, an ecologist and professor, has her world turned upside down when a chance meeting with Tod Corvus – a famous musician and actor – triggers a latent goddess power within her. Shannon soon learns that Tod is Loki, the Asgardian God of Chaos. As she figures out her newfound goddess identity and tries to come to terms with the soulmate connection between her and Tod, she must also learn to survive in a world where reality and myth coincide. Will Shannon succumb to the turmoil of her new reality? Will she learn to harness her powers and become the goddess she was destined to be?
Melody Grace Hicks’ Hidden is the first book in the Triquetra Prophecy and sets the stage for the next two books in the series. Melody had me hooked on the story from the very start. You can feel the raw emotion of the characters leap off the pages. Accompanied by the rollercoaster of high-stakes encounters and emotional upheavals, this book is hard to put down. The pacing is relentless and you can see the stakes rising continuously even as Shannon tries to master her abilities. I loved the use of multiple mythological influences, from Norse to Mesoamerican, and how the author has incorporated this into a modern setting, which adds to the depth of the story. Shannon makes an interesting protagonist with her scientific mind and intelligence balanced by moments of vulnerability. Tod as Loki, came off as a god who is both powerful and deeply human. I loved the supporting cast, especially Thor, Frigga, and the Valkyrie warriors. Fans of urban fantasy and paranormal romance will find Hidden to be a journey worth taking.
