Three writers for the Hampshire Review have collaborated to produce a delightful account of Christmas experiences on the farms of the Northeast. Poogie and his sister Sis are visiting their grandfather's farm. while there, they discover many treasures unavailable in city life.

Uncle Buck decides to take the children on a sleighride where they discover elusive snow creatures called Bandershoots. The snow creatures seem to come from nowhere and they are instantly available to solve mysteries or to assist people in danger. Uncle Buck tells the story of getting lost and how the snow creatures, along with the horse named Mig, find him afraid and alone and they are able to steer him home.

The illustrations in this book are a delight. They compliment the story line and they add interest to the story as well. Toward the end of the book, there is a mystery which will tease the listeners and present the opportunity for a discussion of possible solutions.

This is a story which will keep the interest of the young and bring back memories to the old.
