How Long Will You Love Me? by Patti Brassard Jefferson is a beautiful book about reassurance, warmth, and love. The book deals with the usual questions all children ask when they are tiny. The answers are given in many unique and imaginative ways which is appealing to a child.
The book is absolutely delightful. From the beginning, where the author writes 'I left my heart on every page, how many can you find', till the end the book is filled with love and warmth. The illustrations are top class and done by the author herself. The stars and the moon riding cars, the dolphins sunbathing, a snake wearing boots; they are all so heart warming. The author touches a chord within all of us, especially parents.
This is a book about reassurance. The question 'How long will you love me?' is asked by every child and it is a question that lingers in the minds of adults too. Adults also look for this kind of reassurance in their lives. The fact that the author herself has done the illustrations is amazing. It is a revelation of the writer's incredible creativity, talent, and imagination.
The illustrations make the book what it is. It is bright and colorful and also silly. It's this silliness that makes children's story books interesting to all of us. This book has all the ingredients that will attract children. It exudes warmth and vibrancy, and captures the essence of a small child through simple words and funny illustrations.
