I Am In Control by Dr. Shacara Thompson Curry is an incredibly empowering book that helps readers find their hidden beauty and talent within. Dr. Curry reminds us we are worthy and lovable just the way God made us. My favorite quote, new mind, new perspective is so beautifully defined in these chapters. Each chapter builds on itself until it comes to a fulfilling conclusion. By changing our perceptions about who we are in God's eyes, we find that we can transform our lives. I appreciated how raw and real the author is while relating her stories. I was impressed with the realization that we can't control other people's minds or opinions, but we can control our thoughts, words, and actions. Faith can either be positive or negative, it is our choice. Every chapter is enhanced with Bible verse references and ends with a prayer for the reader. I recommend this well-organized book to those that struggle with purpose, self-esteem, and toxic relationships. It is a tremendous blessing and I am glad I had the opportunity to read it!

I Am In Control by Dr. Shacara Thompson Curry is a Christian devotional about being in control and relying on God. Dr. Curry addresses many topics, such as patience, peace, beauty, power, and joy, as well as several other keynotes and philosophies to live by. She offers a lot of insight into the Christian faith by relaying personal experiences and encouraging readers to live in God’s word. Throughout the book, she shares many Bible verses that correlate to each specific topic she talks about, and overall, this was such an enlightening and interesting read.

I really liked how personal Dr. Curry’s book was. I felt like I had such a connection to her because I could relate to a lot of what she talked about, especially when it came to the topics of beauty and confidence. She gave a lot of sound wisdom, and as someone who struggles with appearance, I really appreciated what she had to say! The verses she shared were verses that I am very acquainted with, but reading them again in this book was such a great reminder. We can trust that God has a plan for us; He knows what He is doing, and we need to have faith that everything will work out according to His will. However, there is so much that we can do ourselves to help keep this positive attitude in life. By practicing the tips that Dr. Shacara Thompson Curry gives in her book, I Am In Control, we can live life to the fullest of our abilities.

The author asks readers a very important question: “Those things that you can control, do you make it a priority to be the change you want to see, or do you constantly blame God for not creating you like someone else?” But the answers to this question are what caught my attention. The titles read like positive affirmations: “I am Joy,” “I am capable,” “I am powerful,” “I am confident,” etc. The beauty of the book lies in the fact that it is rooted in scriptures.
