I Hope She's a Duck by Sophia Koziatek is a heartwarming children's picture book that follows Constance, a young girl eager to meet her new baby sibling. From the moment her parents announced that her mother was pregnant, Constance expressed her hopes for the baby to be various animals, each accompanied by a specific activity she would love to do with them. She wishes for her sibling to be a polar bear so they can build snow castles together, or a turtle so they can have picnics and read books. Constance regularly asks her family members what her sibling will be and when they will arrive. Will she have an elephant, an owl, or a duck for a sibling?

I Hope She's a Duck is a charming story that highlights the joy and curiosity children feel about new siblings. It is an excellent story for young readers who love animals and various activities. Sophia Koziatek encourages family support and bonding in this engaging tale. She highlights seasons like winter, spring, and autumn and holidays like Halloween and Christmas to show the passage of time, adding an educational element. The story also includes fun family activities like camping, swimming, and gardening. It conveys a message of love, reassuring siblings that their family will continue to love them even with a new baby, while whimsical elements add humor to the tale. The colorful illustrations beautifully complement the story and capture the characters’ emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend sharing it with your children to spark their curiosity and prepare them for a new sibling.
