Dads sometimes have simple tastes. They like cars, sports, or a favorite food. I Love You More Than Cheeseburgers: A Father’s Love by Kaylor Wiedenbeck is a story about a dad. You can probably guess what his favorite thing is … cheeseburgers! He loves all different kinds and would eat them for every meal if he could. Not only does he love eating them, but he is also a champion griller. One afternoon he is grilling away when he stops to tell his kids how much he loves them. He loves them more than his grill, his spatula, his burger, and the list goes on. His kids tell him they love him too, in their own special way.
Kaylor Wiedenbeck has written an ode to dads and one of their favorite foods … cheeseburgers! The text is nice and bold so that kids who are beginning readers will be able to try this one on their own. The illustrations by Kellen Roggenbuck are vivid and modern. Dad with his green eyes, full beard, and jaunty stance is a great character. Many kids will laugh out loud as they recognize their own dads in this story. I know, as a former children’s librarian, that stories about dads are always popular and needed. Wiedenbeck has written a silly, feel-good story that kids and parents will enjoy. I really loved the ending where the kids have a little fun with their dad. I Love You More Than Cheeseburgers is a perfect choice to read with your dad on Father’s Day!
