I Want to Be a Singer and a Veterinarian: Lainey's Singer and Career Series, Book 2, is a children's book written by Garrett Carter and illustrated by Anahit Aleksanyan. Lainey is a young African American girl who has decided that she wants to be a singer when she grows up. Singing is what she loves to do, and it's the only thing she feels she can do well. When she discusses her dream with her dad, he agrees that it's great to have a dream, but much better to have other dreams as well. He reminds her about when their dog, Legend, got sick recently. Lainey was the one who noticed that Legend was shaking his head and scratching at his ears. She told her parents about it and went with her mom and brother to the vet. Lainey had taken charge of giving Legend his ear drops and helped him get better. Her dad thinks she did a pretty good job, and that she'd make a great veterinarian.
Garrett Carter's children's career story, I Want to Be a Singer and a Veterinarian: Lainey's Singer and Career Series, Book 2, is entertaining and educational. I liked how Lainey's dad has her look at the things she does now to figure out what she could do when she's grown up. Anahit Aleksanyan's illustrations are marvelous. They're brightly colored and relate perfectly to each page of the text. This story is great for bedtime storytelling and is also suitable for use as a children's first reader. Dreams are a good start, and I Want to Be a Singer and a Veterinarian: Lainey's Singer and Career Series, Book 2 shows kids how, with a little imagination, they can visualize their futures. It's most highly recommended.
