I have just finished reading Imprisoned World by William L Frame. I found this book to be a fascinating piece of science fiction. Imprisoned World introduces us to the basin of Amora, where the people live trapped behind mountains, completely unaware that there is a whole universe out there. The main character is Cei'li, an outcast who has a strong bond with someone called Blei. When a mysterious outsider named Isabella appears, it starts a chain of events that makes Cei'li question everything his people have ever known about their home.
The writing in Imprisoned World by William L Frame stands out because of the detail he puts into the creatures of Amora, like the ty'jirs and the zi'zens. I found the story pacing to be steady throughout. It does a good job of balancing Cei'li's personal struggles with the bigger conflict involving the empire. The characters feel like real people, and the themes of isolation and discovery really come across well. I really liked the world the author created, especially the floating forest, how the characters were connected to their mounts, and how he handles the survival aspect of the swampy forest. The dialogue is a bit formal, but it fits the setting. Overall, Imprisoned World is a good choice if you enjoy immersive world-building and sci-fi with a bit of mystery. I am looking forward to seeing what William L Frame does next because this book is a start to a series. It has a mix of action and mystery that kept me interested until the end.
