The cycle of life is really quite simple. A living creature is born, matures, and grows old. In the process, there is a definite learning curve as the young aspire to achieve what the elderly have already conquered. The bond between a grandparent and a grandchild is special, everlasting and very important in this cycle of life, this learning curve. Author Melanie Maddy and illustrator Celia Marie Baker have created a vivid image of this bond through verse and colorful illustrations in the book, In A Child's Eyes. Using the words of a song she composed, the author creates a special moment, a special time shared between a grandfather and his grandson.

The story evolves as seen through the eyes of a child, and the story is really quite simple: it's about life, the beauty of life and how life just carries on. The cycle is complete when, after a lovely day spent with Grandpa, the boy announces, "Grandpa, I know what I'll do. When I grow up, I'm going to be just like you." What could be more simple? All we have to do is look with the eyes of a child and see how simple life really is.

The illustrations complement the story and the author's song is included at the end of the book. Some of the pictures have a "search for the hidden image" to add more interest. This is a simple but delightful story about the cycle of life and the beauty of the precious bond between a grandparent and a grandchild.
