In Search of Beira's Hammer: A Fantasy Novella by Kristina Young reveals that Scarlet is not happy with the landscape around Berlin where she lives as she considers it to be a bit boring. She decides to find the famous hammer of Goddess Beira. This hammer would help Scarlet to add a mountain or two to the surroundings of Berlin. The hammer is believed to be lost somewhere in the Scottish Highlands. On her way, Scarlet meets a troll named Amhlaidh, who agrees to help her in exchange for poetry readings. These unconventional travelers cooperate with a wide range of Celtic lore figures, including a lake monster!
I applaud Kristina Young's amazing sense of humor. The scenes like the one with Amhlaidh trolling Highland cattle are hilarious and witty. In Search of Beira's Hammer has thrilling features of magical realism, intertwining the aspects of our everyday life with those specific to mythological characters. Trolls form "a council" to have a better look at internet trolling. I found references like this to be wonderful. Vivid descriptions, amusing characters, a smooth narrative, and even a reference to the hardships on the path of powerful women will not disappoint readers of this fascinating novella. I liked the illustrations by the talented Marina Mensi. They add enchantment to the novella, bringing to life its extraordinary imagery. In Search of Beira's Hammer is a cozy read for fans of the fantasy genre, with humorous prose, and a tale inspired by mythology.
