In Shining Armor: Talitha Cumi by TC Leonard tells the story of Maria, an ambitious orphan who loves playing tennis. Being invited to be a ball girl at the New York Open is her dream come true. The day before she gets in some practice strokes at her foster home when she loses her ball in next door’s garage. Going to retrieve it, she sees something that she should never have seen. Russell Tucker, tennis champion, is making a comeback four years after his wife left him. He befriends Maria at the tournament and life seems to look rosier. Then she takes a bullet for him. Holly Stone is Russell’s ex-wife, a well-known singer who has married again. Only her second husband isn’t all he seems to be. After he attacks her, she runs, heading straight back to her old home where she finds Russell trying to save Maria’s life. Benny Gluman is a reporter and he’s made it his mission in life to destroy Holly and Russell. Benny wants to know what Holly and Russell are doing with a girl in a coma and he starts to watch them. The pair are trying their best to bring Maria out of her coma and spill the story of their lives to her in the hopes that it will trigger something and wake her up.

In Shining Armor: Talitha Cumi by TC Leonard is a story about discovery and life. I found it a little jumpy to begin with, but it soon settled into a natural rhythm and started to flow very nicely. There are lots of different stories here all being tightly wound into one and I thought it was very well written. The characters were developed slowly, with more of their backgrounds and their stories coming out as the novel progressed, which does make for better reading as it throws in a few curve balls along the way. The writing itself is very descriptive, with a way of bringing scenes alive in the mind. Enjoyable story but, although I understand this to be the first book in a series, it ended very suddenly.
