It was when Demetria Alexander Grissett was diagnosed with multiple myeloma that she was lead to write and publish this book, In Sickness and In Health. This is a journal that will take you through her everyday life as she deals with this cancer of the plasma cells. But this is not all Demetria goes through during her illness. Her husband is diagnosed with diabetes, and she loses three cousins within a few months of each other. Instead of trying to take matters into her own hands, Ms. Grissett turns to God to help her deal with these very stressful and heartbreaking times in her life. The Bible verse she holds onto is one I love, and it tells why she chose to place her trust in God and His Word. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
This is the most precious book written by someone who is so humble and truly places her faith and trust in the Lord for everything she is going through. I laughed and I cried with Demetria as she shares her heart and her feelings as she goes through this phase of her life. But as sad and heartbreaking as her story is, I found an amazing amount of encouragement and strength throughout her entire journey. I appreciate her honesty about her feelings, because this is what will help others so much that are going through some of the same situations. And even if your situation is not quite the same as this author's, I really encourage you to read In Sickness and In Health because it will uplift you, no matter what. Ms. Grissett’s story was truly a blessing for me to read!
