In The Shadow Of The Oak is a heartfelt celebration of love between a son and his father. David Ferro shares true stories about his late father, Aurelio, whose presence loomed large in his life. Alongside the real-life events, the author presents a mythic retelling of those events, showing his father's larger-than-life aura and wisdom. The book is a testament to Aurelio's legacy, humility, and unwavering generosity. Born on a homestead in Venice, Alberta, Aurelio went on to become a skillful carpenter after a brief stint working as a bouncer at the York Hotel in Edmonton. These stories also include Aurelio losing his thumb while chopping wood as a youngster, keeping the peace at a wedding, rescuing David from fallen beams of timber, and catching a steer in the pasture, among others.
In The Shadow Of The Oak is a heartwarming memoir as well as an inspirational self-help guide. Apart from the captivating stories, readers will also discover some valuable life lessons that Aurelio left for his son, David Ferro. One of the lessons that stuck in my mind after reading the book was Aurelio's take on why people must pick a trade and continue to hone their skills. As a man of extreme humility who always sought to help others, Aurelio's life story is truly an inspiration to us all, and Ferro does a fantastic job of presenting his father's stories in a compelling manner. I loved the mythic retelling of the events from Aurelio's life. I am very grateful to have read this book and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of inspiration and motivation in their lives.
