It Must Have Been You is a children's picture book written by Zanib Mian and illustrated by Fatima Mian. It's the story of a young girl who just keeps on getting into trouble. She's bored and hungry, so first she tries to reach the pie that's on a shelf to get herself a piece of it. Unfortunately, the pie slips as she's taking it down and falls on the floor. When her big sister comes in to see what all the noise was about, she sees the pie on the floor and knows it must have been her little sister. The little girl decides to go out and explore, but when she comes back in she leaves muddy footprints and her mother is not at all pleased with her. Then she thinks that a present will make her mother happy again, so she takes down her box of beads, but that too falls and beads go scattering everywhere. Her grandfather comes in and sees the mess. She just can't do anything right -- or can she?
Zanib Mian's children's picture book, It Must Have Been You, is clever and funny, and Fatima Mian's illustrations are inspired. Along with the brightly colored panels that follow the story line, the artist, who is a graphic designer, incorporates the words of the story into the art. I had a marvelous time looking for the words and following them throughout the artwork. The story is charming and has a positive message about families and love. Parents and caregivers should have a great time reading this book aloud and pointing out the words and their colors as they read them. It's also a challenging and fun book for young readers. It Must Have Been You is highly recommended.
