In It’s Party Time! But Where Is My Outfit? by Sandra Ledesma, young readers meet a group of critters who live together in a treehouse. One day, a park ranger visits them with a surprise. He invites them to a celebration, promising cake and lots of fun. They’re all very excited. Even so, they quickly realize they’re not ready for the get-together because they are unable to find their usual party outfits. As the animals continue searching through their messy spaces, their eagerness turns to frustration, and they begin to feel stuck. After a while, one of their friends, the elephant, suggests working as a team. Once they start sharing what they have, their luck begins to turn around. However, the time for the gathering is approaching. Will they each find the perfect ensemble in time for the big event?

I really enjoyed It’s Party Time! But Where Is My Outfit? by Sandra Ledesma. This story has a playful rhythm and lively characters that make it an easy, fun read-aloud. As an educator, I believe this book could be used to start conversations about teamwork, organization, and helping others. Students could also do a sequencing or retelling activity. To extend the story even more, teachers could have kids draw their own party outfit or write about working as a team. The illustrations by Mousam Banerjee have bright colors and are quite detailed. Children will definitely enjoy pointing out different things on each page since there’s so much to look at. Overall, I had a great time reading this book and could easily see it becoming a classroom favorite. Readers who like colorful, character-driven picture books will want to take a look at this charming, heartwarming story.
