Jack and Bubble by Colleen M. Bratley is part of The Giving Collection. One day, Jack sits on a bee. Bubble is feeling just a little bit flat and wishes Jack would look where he sat. Bubble is a bee like no other, and through him, Jack learns to express himself through his own style. You see, Bubble loves his hats and a quirky style of dress, and he shows Jack that, while everyone is different and has their own style, he should accept himself and respect others for their choices. He also learns that tolerance and kindness are the strongest bases on which to build his life.
Jack and Bubble by Colleen M Bratley is a lovely story with amazing illustrations by Diego D. Quiroga. It’s a cute story that teaches younger readers much about tolerance and kindness, about accepting that we are all different, but those differences are what make us who we are. It also teaches them to accept themselves for who they are and not hide away just because they feel different from others, growing in confidence as they do. The illustrations are accompanied by a story that rhymes, making it engaging and easy for all young readers to follow. The addition of a coloring page at the end is a nice touch, encouraging children to use their imaginations and what they learned from the book to be creative. In some small way, it also teaches kids to be kind to animals as well as humans, and especially to look after the bees—without them, this world will struggle. This is the perfect book for kids to read at any time, be it at school or bedtime, and it’s a wonderful addition to a great series of books.
