The lovely children’s story, Jackie Does It All by Fabian E. Ferguson, contains valuable lessons that every child should learn. It teaches children how to say no to avoid being overwhelmed. The scouts are preparing for a wonderful three-day event in which the top scout of the year will be awarded. Jackie is looking forward to the event and is determined to receive the award. Having already received multiple patches for her creativity and kindness, she sets out to work on other activities that will earn her more patches. Before she settles down to work on the activities she has planned, a neighbor and some friends ask for her help. But there is little time left to gain more patches and Jackie also feels that she needs to help out where she is needed.

As the main character in the story, Jackie is inspiring since she has set a goal for herself and is determined to work to receive the award. She also sets aside time to serve others. I loved the book’s main lesson about learning how to say no; an important lesson that children should learn as they develop to avoid taking on more than they can handle. Children will also learn other valuable lessons including how to evaluate their tasks and prioritize what they need to do first. I also loved the bright illustrations created by Alisa Aryutova. They enhance the story and will help children remember the characters and the lessons they portray. Jackie Does It All by Fabian E. Ferguson is an empowering children’s story that contains important lessons and imaginative illustrations.
