In Jagger the Pig Finds His Forever Home by Tracie Tachovsky, Jerett is a hard-working kid who dreams of owning a farm with various animals such as pigs, chickens, and goats. To achieve his dreams, Jerett works on a friend's farm, cleaning up and gathering eggs to sell. Jerett cannot wait to own his first animal. He is determined, works hard, and saves a lot. On the farm where he works, the pig gives birth to healthy, cute piglets, but they are so tiny. The farmer reassures Jerett that it's normal and the piglets will grow big with time. Jerett continues working hard, and he can't wait to own his first piglet. Later on, his dreams are fulfilled, and his sister is very happy to see the piglet when Jerett brings it home. They decide to name it Jagger. How will Jagger behave in his new home?
Jagger the Pig Finds His Forever Home by Tracie Tachovsky is wonderfully written, and the themes covered, such as working hard to achieve one’s goals, will resonate with many young readers and their guardians. I also loved the emphasis on the culture of saving, which is an important financial skill to learn from an early age. Savannah Reifers did an excellent job with the illustrations. They are captivating and help to grab the imagination of the reader, hence making it easier to pass on the intended message. The characters were well-developed and relatable, and Tracie also ensured events flowed seamlessly, which ensured no room for confusion for the reader. This was a good read, and I look forward to more by this talented author.
