Author Biography

Chris Hardy, a native of California, decided to finally pursue her long-time dream of writing books that touch the hearts of children and adults alike. "Jake and the Pandemic" was her first book and it was inspired by her nieces' experiences during the pandemic as well as the adorable dog, Jake, who she adopted after the passing of her neighbor. Her second book, "Jake's Dreamland: Jake and the Purple Unicorn," was released in December 2021 and her third & fourth books, "Grateful Jake" and "Jake and the Biggest Yawn Ever," were released in early 2022.

Her writing goals are to create engaging stories filled with humor, life lessons and education to not only help children but also to help them thoroughly enjoy their book reading experience.

When she isn't engaged in her creative outlet of writing, she runs her business that she has owned since 2002 selling natural products. In her spare time, she enjoys going on walks with Jake, playing tennis with her 80-year-old mom, hiking in forests, riding bikes at the beach, vacationing in Hawaii, spending time with family and being grateful for all the good that is in her life.

It happened to me, and I am sure it will happen to you and your children. Within two minutes of starting to read Jake and the Biggest Yawn Ever by Chris Hardy, I began to Y-A-W-N. Our puppy friend, Jake, lets out the most enormous yawn, which takes on a life of its own. It goes out of the house and around the neighborhood. Yawns are contagious, and everyone in town starts to yawn. Not only the humans begin yawning, but the lizards, the squirrels, and other animals. Yawn infects all the animals and humans with yawning. Chris wanted to write a book that would help children fall asleep but has succeeded in authoring a book that will cause us all to yawn. Kids will love this book and will want to read it repeatedly. I challenge you to read this book to your children and not yawn.

Once again, Chris Hardy has written a classic in Jake and the Biggest Yawn Ever. This is the second book about Jake that I have read, and it is even better than the first. Chris knows how to hold the attention of children. Her illustrator is Wally_LL again. Her drawings are even better than the last time. Children will enjoy guessing which animal is on the next page. They will delight in watching all the various animals yawn. Chris hit the ball out of the park with this simply delightful children’s book. She states her goal in writing this book was to help children sleep. Reading this story to your children as they go to sleep may take several nights to finish. Chances are your children will fall asleep before you finish reading.

Do you fight off sleep every night? Perhaps you yawn repetitively and the yawns just get bigger and bigger. Did you know that yawns are contagious? The more frequent and the bigger the yawn, the more contagious it gets. I bet you’re stifling a yawn right now just reading this. I know I am. The cute little dog, Jake, let out the biggest yawn ever and the yawn slunk around the neighborhood infecting everyone in its wake with a yawn-ful-ness response. No one could resist. Not even the squirrels or the skunks or even Mom and Dad. And then the yawn took control and, guess what happened? Well, what do you expect? “No one is safe for it’s now yawn o’clock!” (I love that line!)

Chris Hardy’s picture bedtime story, Jake and the Biggest Yawn Ever!, is a fun book for young readers, hopefully to yawn them to sleep. But there’s so much more to this book than the great big yawn. As the yawn infects the neighborhood, lots of different animals are introduced, so young readers, as they stifle their yawns, will enjoy learning some of the different animal names. And, then there are the marvelous illustrations that depict the yawn’s journey and the creatures it infects. The story is somewhat hypnotic, as the author intends it to be. The ultimate purpose is to lull young readers into a deep sleep, though it probably lulls the adult reader to sleep as well. Jake makes a sweet protagonist and his yawn is quite the entertainer. I loved it!

Jake and the Biggest Yawn Ever! by Chris Hardy is the best bedtime book ever, guaranteed to send anybody into a peaceful sleep. Jake makes a big yawn which travels through the neighborhood and causes everyone else to start yawning. His contagious yawn goes from squirrels to skunks and many others in between. Hopefully, parents will stay awake long enough to finish reading this book to their children but it is most likely that they will also fall asleep. Nobody is able to stop Yawn as he travels from character to character. Jake’s World will donate part of the proceeds from each book sale to various charities such as the Humane Society, rescue shelters, and other organizations such as St. Jude and the Ronald McDonald House to help his friends (both furry and non-furry) lead better lives.

Jake and the Biggest Yawn Ever! is an extremely effective bedtime story. Chris Hardy’s writing literally sends the young reader gently to sleep. The story is told in rhymes which are easy for children to learn and remember. The book is beautifully illustrated and creatively written as Yawn travels from one person to the next, putting them all to sleep. Children will love the adorable array of characters that fall asleep from Yawn. This book will definitely help parents to get their children to sleep comfortably and quickly. This review took extra long to write as I kept falling asleep! Well done to Chris Hardy for an awesome book – I would recommend the entire series for all young readers.
