Jigsaw of Light is a young adult fantasy novel by JC Button. It's been three years since fifteen-year-old Zeb's father, a fisherman from Cornwall, inexplicably disappeared, leading him to be haunted by nightmares. However, after receiving a shocking letter from his father, Zeb finds a package with three mysterious crystals of ancient power. Zeb visits his grandfather in Cornwall and discovers he's the Water Bearer. Now, equipped with an extraordinary surfboard that can traverse oceans, Zeb must find a way to unite all seven crystals with the violent Atlanteans on his trail. Helping him on his mission is another teenager named Kaia and her cousin, Jake. Meanwhile, Hemlock, a man with plans of his own, aligns himself with Zeb, much to his chagrin. Can Zeb pass the final test that's the Jigsaw of Light and save the world?
If stories involving teenage superheroes and world-ending apocalyptic threats are your jam, you will love Jigsaw of Light. Author JC Button has created an absorbing fantasy yarn that takes readers on a multi-continental adventure filled with mystery, action, and plenty of thrills. This is an intricately crafted story with a fast-paced plot that keeps pulling the rug from under your feet at regular intervals in a stellar combination of shocking reveals and unexpected curveballs. The main protagonist, Zeb, undergoes a journey of self-discovery, and his story arc was one of the highlights of the book for me. I also enjoyed Zeb's relationship with Kaia and their friendly back-and-forth banter. Overall, this is the kind of book that urban fantasy readers and young adult superhero fiction lovers will both relish.
