Joseph Guy is a Bible-believing, gospel-sharing man of faith. In Journey to Bethlehem: 25-Day Christmas Devotional and Journal, he leads his readers through the original Christmas story with devotions filled with spiritual golden nuggets. I love his statement, “What we see as a mess, God sees as a miracle.” Working through this journal will give you a wonderful twenty-five days leading up to celebrating the miracle of the virgin birth. You will walk close to Jesus through the devotions. God always keeps His promises, and this book is full of these promises. We must set aside time daily to meditate on everything Jesus has done for us. We need to focus on what God is doing, not on what is happening around us. As we focus on Jesus, we become close to Him.

Looking to Jesus as we journey through life’s trials is one way to ensure victory. Journey to Bethlehem is full of wisdom on how to live a godly, victorious life. Joseph Guy writes in a straightforward, since-God-said-it-I-believe-it manner. He makes no apology for accepting the Word of God as Truth. This book teaches the reader to focus on opportunities, not disadvantages. The culmination of the devotions falls on December 25, when the greatest Gift ever given is discussed. God gave the world His Best at Christmas. This is a great devotional to use year after year leading up to Christmas morning. It will increase your faith and feed your spirit. What part of the Christmas story will you find most inspiring?

Joseph Guy’s ‘Journey to Bethlehem’ is a wonderful 25-day devotional and journal that I will be looking forward to using this upcoming Christmas Season. This book leads the reader through Christ’s birth starting with Isaiah’s prophecy of Jesus’ birth. He points out that while Isaiah’s journey was not an easy one, it was a worthwhile one and we should have hope even during the darkest times of our life, because though we may not see it, that is when God is truly at work. The reflections continue leading the reader through reflections on who Jesus was and how God’s sending him to earth to do his mission has freed us.

What I liked about Joseph’s devotional was that he captured what it is to be human while at the same time, explaining the truth of how Jesus saves us. There is also plenty of space within the pages to write your reflective thoughts after each devotional. He also reflected upon himself, his experiences and his own self-growth which is refreshing and relatable.

The entry I liked most of his devotions was his reflection on how some may reject faith and the Great Commission Christians were given. Guy does not become preachy as some might on the topic. He recognizes how complex it can be. He does not give an answer to how we can help others make Christ apart of their daily lives, but he reflects on how God has reached out to the Wise Men and Christians must find ways to do the same. Great work!
