Journey to Honeysuckle Mountain is the second book in The Adventures of Lorenzo the Bear, a children's animal storybook series written and illustrated by Carmela Dutra. Lorenzo wakes up one morning and discovers that he is out of honey for his breakfast oatmeal. He decides to go to Hank's Diner to have breakfast instead. On the way, he meets up with Leo the Lion who accompanies him to Hank's. When they get there, the diner is filled with customers who are there because they also have no honey. Hank tells Lorenzo that Poppy Hills Place has not had a shipment of honey from Queen Beverlee the Bumble Bee for some time. Lorenzo decides that he'll go visit the Queen on Honeysuckle Mountain and make sure she and her worker bees are all right.
Carmela Dutra's second book of The Adventures of Lorenzo the Bear, Journey to Honeysuckle Mountain, is a marvelous adventure story for children of all ages. Dutra's illustrations are fabulous! They're brightly colored and each panel is filled with details and animals to look at. The story itself is a child-sized epic quest, complete with a storm, a villain, a jerboa guide and a mountain with caves. There's a grand dramatic scene when Henry and his Band of Angry Hornets confront Lorenzo and Lorenzo stands tall and shouts, "I am Lorenzo the Bear!" that works brilliantly. Dutra's story is not only a great bed-time tale, but the exciting story and action-packed illustrations make this an offering that will tempt even the most reluctant readers to try their reading skills. The Adventures of Lorenzo the Bear, Journey to Honeysuckle Mountain, is most highly recommended.
