Journey to Osm: The Blue Unicorn’s Tale is a work of high fantasy fiction penned by author Sybrina Durant. Written for all ages, the action takes place in MarBryn, a world of unicorns where the creatures live in a sentient society. Their numbers are dwindling and the species, known as Metal Horns, are slowly dying out, which means their magic is dying with them. When their Oracle predicts that the ill-fated unicorns might find their salvation in a newborn foal, everyone’s eyes are on Blue from the moment he’s born. Unfortunately, Blue is born without metal, but the pressure of being such a disappointment drives him to succeed in other ways, and he might just turn out to be the saviour his clan is looking for after all.

The first thing that I absolutely loved about this tale was the prophecy-gone-wrong concept at its very beginning. Throughout the book, author Sybrina Durant subverts the norms of this kind of high fantasy, breaking many tropes, but then bringing in others to surprise you at just the right moment. The result is an intriguing plot line and a tale of true grit and determination as Blue attempts to live up to expectations, despite not being born with the powers he was claimed to have. There were moments where I genuinely forgot that I was reading about unicorns, because the emotional story lines of the characters were strong and relatable throughout. I believe that many fantasy fans will enjoy Journey to Osm: The Blue Unicorn’s Tale.

Journey to Osm: The Blue Unicorn's Tale by Sybrina Durant is the story of a unicorn called Blue. Before he was born, a prophecy said that he would be the most powerful unicorn born, able to take down their enemies. But when Blue is born, he does not have a proper horn. All the unicorns' horns are metal and his is not. He is a runt and his people have no faith in him as their saviour. No metal, no magic, they say.

I liked the premise for this book. So many heroes start off as less than heroic, but they usually end up proving the doubters wrong. Blue has a hard life, and his species is facing extinction. I really liked Blue as a character. He has a lot on his young shoulders, even if no one does believe he can be of any use to their people. I think that Sybrina Durant has created an enchanting tale with Journey to Osm: The Blue Unicorn's Tale. It is a little hard to place where it would go in the market. A lot of people might think of unicorns as appealing only to a younger reader, but there are more mature themes here that would suit young adult readers. The plot is different and there is a good story here. It would appeal to fantasy fans, and I hope they give it a chance. Unicorns are definitely becoming more popular lately, so I think it could do well. Well worth the read.

Journey To Osm: The Blue Unicorn’s Tale by Sybrina Durant is the story of a unicorn named Blue in the land of MarByrn, born without a metal horn on his head like the others. Living as an outcast because of his metal-less horn and no real magic, Blue learns to sneak away from the tribe to train and learn how to fight in the night. Knowing he would never possess the magic the Oracle had envisioned he would, Blue hopes to at least be able to help defend the tribe against the Magh, a cruel evil sorcerer that keeps the unicorns from roaming too far from their home... until Blue ventures to the Muzika Woods, a place no other unicorns had visited in a very long time. Blue is informed that his coming to the Muzika Woods had been a prophecy given to the inhabitants by the Moon-Star Spirit and that the prophecy was about to be fulfilled. Will this knowledge give Blue the courage to face the problems that are soon to come? Will the prophecy finally free the tribe of the fear instilled by the dreaded Magh? Could this unicorn with no metal on his horn truly be the savior the tribe has been told would be born to them?

Journey To Osm: The Blue Unicorn’s Tale is a very well thought out story with a plot full of excitement as Blue learns to fight and attempts to live up to a prophecy handed down long before his birth. The characters are fun, interesting and very entertaining with their magical ways and their courageous pride as the story unfolds in an age-old battle. I loved Journey To Osm because it also sends a message to the reader to never give up, even if the odds are stacked against you. The cover art and illustrations by Dasguptarts are beautifully designed and suit the story well. I look forward to more stories like Journey to Osm by Sybrina Durant and recommend this five star story to anyone that loves a trip into the mystical world as much as I do.
