Joy to the World: Christmas Throughout the Year by Jan Blonk is a series of Christian devotionals about the reason for Christmas throughout the entire year. It's important to teach children that Christmas is not about the gifts, decorations and entertainment, but about the birth of Christ. The book is broken down into sub categories with short stories explaining what Christmas is truly about. Joy to the World gives an open idea of how the spirit of Christmas features in everyday life. I definitely enjoyed the way the author tied scriptures into the story lines.
I thoroughly enjoyed each short story and the explanation behind each sub title. I really enjoyed God's Tender Mercy because it explained how death is our present reality and how light always conquers darkness. This particular topic made me smile because it stated that Jesus "guides our feet into the way of peace." I took great comfort in this quote because God will always lead you into a place to make your life peaceful. I believe that everything happens for a reason and God has a plan for us all at the time of birth. Our lives are beautifully designed and orchestrated to God's will. The tender mercy of God has saved us all from so many decisions and roads along the way that we wanted to take in our lives. The stories were inspiring and I enjoyed each one for different reasons.
