Kyle and His Pal Jake: What a Duo These Two Make! by Christian Kueng is a picture book for young children. It’s Christmas Day, and Jake opens up the best present yet: a puppet! He ponders what name to give him and finally decides on Jake. Kyle spent a lot of time practicing talking without moving his lips and bringing Jake to life. He would practice in front of the mirror each night and in front of his friends at school. But as he got older, Kyle was bullied for “playing with a doll,” and it made him question whether he should give up being a puppeteer. What should Kyle do? Keep doing what he loves, or put Jake away? Pick up a copy of this book to find out what Kyle decides.
Kyle and His Pal Jake: What a Duo These Two Make! by Christian Kueng was a pleasure to read. It is a simple story about a boy and a puppet, and that alone made it so enticing. From start to finish, my attention was on the plot, and it had me eager to flip to the next page to find out what the boy decides to do. The writing has been kept simple, allowing children to follow along with ease. The illustrations by Nana Melkadze are incredible and of a professional quality. The puppet Jake was my favorite. I’ve always found ventriloquism to be fascinating, and I know children will feel the same when reading this wonderful book. So if you're looking for a bedtime story or a boredom breaker, this book is the one for you.
