Lala is a different kind of lizard; she does not eat insects and her best friend is a spider. While together in the garden, the two started hearing weird sounds, but the sounds were not easy to find. After trying to figure out where these were coming from, they finally found it was Oscar the fish, who lived in the Pond by The Rock. Oscar is upset because trash and pollution have contaminated the pond. After getting help from Lala's sister and her friends, the lizards, and all the other creatures, animals, and insects in the garden got together to clean the pond. You have to read this adorable book to find out the unique way these friends cleaned the Pond by The Rock as clean as could be.

There is one thing different about Lala and the Pond by The Rock from other books. This one is bilingual in both English and Spanish, with alternating English and Spanish pages. Natalia Jiménez Osorio created the most beautiful, vibrant, and colorful illustrations for this book. I love the attention to detail on every page of the book. Susana Illera Martinez does a fabulous job of writing this special book, teaching children the valuable lesson of the importance of working together, no matter how different we are, to do what is an overwhelming job to a few people. I think this book is a must in every elementary library and daycare center. I will be purchasing a copy of Lala and the Pond by The Rock for my granddaughter because her mother speaks Spanish. If you have children who have a parent or parents who are Spanish, I encourage you to gift them a copy of this s sweet book.
