Return to Cairn Isle by Tara Fox Hall is the sequel to Latham's Landing. Cairn Isle is still alive, and the Latham's Landing mansion still sits atop the island. And now it's taking more victims. Retired police chief Robert Stahl wants to put an end to this, but can he stop the evil forces? Can he stop the Sea Room from lighting up every time the house claims a new victim? He's going to have a go and decides to buy it. But his attempts at flooding Cairn Isle are in vain as the evil shadows haunt the shore. Stahl bands together with a pastor, an island survivor, a reporter, and a psychic, but can they finally succeed in bringing an end to the horror? Or is Latham's Landing destined to survive, no matter what?
Return to Cairn Isle by Tara Fox Hall is a long-awaited sequel. I had the pleasure of reading the first book, and this one is just as good, if not better. If you have read the first book, you will recognize some of the characters as we meet a few new ones, too, all well-developed and likable. The descriptive writing draws you in, immersing you in an icy chill as you join the characters on the evil isle in a bid to finally beat it. This is not your usual horror story, full of blood and gore. This story unfolds in your mind, playing tricks on you as you read and bringing your imagination out in full force. The story is steady, with plenty of action to keep you interested and no small amount of suspense that builds throughout. This is an excellent follow-on from the first book, well worth the long wait, and highly recommended for lovers of psychological horror.
